I'm about to replace my old consumer unit with new split load one.
The incoming earth  on the electric meter seems to be 6mm and gas pipe earth is also 6mm.
I thought that the earth should now be 10mm for gas and water pipes.
Should I call leccy board to replace incoming earth or can I still use 6mm.
Also the shower is connected to the meter via junction box which is crimped shut ie: I think it was installed by leccy board. Can I leave this as it is.
Any help appreciated[/b]

Main earth bonding to gas & water etc is 10mm2. Main earth for CU is 16mm2.

Some cut-outs (the bit where the incoming cable joins to the meter) have an accessible screw for the main earth termination. If so, you can change this yourself, but if it is sealed up by EB then you need to give them a call.

Arrange this visit for the day when you replace the CU so that they can do the work in one visit . Don't forget you need to fill out a completion certificate to satisfy the EB that the install is safe & sound.

You ain't seen nuttin yet (pay special attention to the earthing):

Gas/water still could be OK depending on your system type & readings.

Ian pulls out the can of wriggle ones

But to keep it "safe", recommend upgrading......
