maintenance of electric showers.

In one of my college assignments i have been asked to write a maintenance schedule for an electric shower. My plumbing books aren't very helpful and just write about checking o-rings and descaling the "working parts of the shower". How often do you think these should be done and are there any other parts of a shower which need regular maintenance?
