Anyone help me?

I took out the fluff cleaner to check it out, it was ok so I replaced it. Starting the machine up then it leaked out of the drain pipe inside the door where the fluff filter is.
This is supposed to drain the machine when the fluff filter door is opened but it will not close off when the door is shut again. There does not seem to be any kind of valve but the action of closing the door causes the hieght of the pipe to raise by about half an inch. is this hat is suposed to prevent the overflow?
I can block of the overflow pipe as a temporary fix but dont want to cause any permanent damage.

Thanks

posting more info like - model number, serial number and what the machine is will help get some decent answers
