My trusty Megger MFT is coming up due for its calibration, I usually use my local wholesaler but this year their price has really jumped (quoted £95+vat).

Considering using one of the online call-collect-calibrate-return services, has anyone used or have any experience of either 'Acutest' or 'the calibration centre' ??

I've used the calibration centre before without problems - but I havent had my test kit calibrated in a good few years ( I use a test box and check it monthly)

I detest the rip off merchants calling it "Calibration" Its merely an accuracy check. Calibration would imply some sort of adjustment ???

The rip-off merchants may simply 'check' - although, if they do that, what on earth do they do if they find an unnacceptable reading - simply 'report it'?! However, the competent ones do make adjustments if the accuracy of the machine's measurements are outside of specified limits - and report the pre-adjustment and post-adjustment results. As with any digital measuring instrument, virtually everying is 'adjustable'.

Kind Regards, John.

With most test gear calibration means checking it against accuracy standards and if necessary adjusting it and recording the results both before and after adjustment.

However most modern test gear is very stable so unless it is extremely high precision (and the stuff electricians use isn't high precision) most calibration checks will result in no action required.
