It's up to you..who's fitting it?

Ask them...!

It just gives you a point to plumb into and gives you your 150mm pipe centres.

As Paul says, gives you a simple way of locating the pipes, very handy for DIY fixing.

Seems though that your shower comes with a pipe template and wall fixings and a decent plumber should have no issue fitting it out of the box.

Be warned some Mira shower heads are only rated at 5 bar, if the holes get bunged up (but still work) the housing can crack if they are fed from a combi boiler. And cost £70 to replace. Guess how I know?
