We've recently had building work done at home and think that out master BT socket has been removed. We have 2 remaining extension sockets - which don't work and the main wire that comes out of the dark grey/black BT socket which is in our garage and runs along the guttering of our house has also been cut as we had an extension built.
We have had the house for just over a year and hadn't had a landline so didn't really pay much notice to it untill now
I'd contacted BT to report a fault as we had no dial tone - at this point we did not realise the wire was cut! They said it would be £130 for someone to come and take a look at it and then i'm assuming will cost us more to have new wiring and a master socket. Am i right in thinking that BT will only take responsibilty for the wiring up to the grey box? Not from the grey box into our house?
Can I get a new master socket fitted by someone else or can we do it ourselves? My husband is very handy around the home and electrically minded. We just need one phone socket to be working so that we can use it for our broad band.
Any suggestions/help will be greatly appreciated,
Thanks
