Can anyone tell me if the MK type B mcb could be used as a direct replacement for the type 2, have tried googling type 2, but the only place they seem to be on sale is ebay. Looking at photos they look very much the same ( apart from type B being 6A,16A, 32A instead of 5A,15A,30A)

Thank you

Lizzie

Part of eurpeon harmonisation, MCB types are lettered rather than numbered now, yes you can use a type B where there was a type 2 before, and be sure its at least as safe as it was before, becuase right across the range, the required Z's are less tight on B.

the 5/15/30 and 6/16/32 is a different thing, but also harmonisation at work AFAIK, you could get 6/16/32 numbered breakers for a time*, so that change must have happened a little before

Oh and the other thing, is make sure the design of the consumer unit and its devices hasn't changed in the mean time, some manufactorers change the design of breakers occasionaly

*there is a consumer unit full of them in this house

Thanks Adam
