Mondeo bonnet opening fun

A mate has a MK4 Mondeo which won't open it's bonnet.

Know nothing about newer stuff as I drive old hacks but a look round the interweb suggests the only option is to remove tray under the car and reach up to remove the plate that holds the latch in place, then use a screwy to open the bonnet.

Being the time of year it is I don't fancy lying down to do all that....anyone got a better solution?

Nah the reason he asked me is cos he is skint and trying to do it on the cheap. Ford want £185.

My mate uses a long thin screwdriver through the grill to push the catch in behind, quite common problem apparently
