I have an 2 yr old mondeo suffering from abnormal tyre wear. The front wear rapidly on the inner 1/4. I have had the tracking checked twice, which is normal. It does 15K then the tyres are threadbare. Pressure are ok.

Any thoughts?

Where did you have it checked, are they competent ....?

Did they check the amount of toe in, on your front wheels ....?

Thanks, Had tracking checked twice at 2 different ATS centres. Toe in/out was correct.

Get the balljoints / wishbone bushes checked out

This would be my suggestion too, after having had similar expierences with a Escort td, wishbone bushes, the rubber perishes over time leading to imprecise steering geometery.

But the guys that did the tracking surely checked the wishbones before they did the tracking. Because the tracking should only have been done if everything else was ok.

Too right, but how many of the monkeys that work in kwak fat or ats would bother with that?!

find a garage that can do a full 4-wheel geometry check. not unknown for mondeos to have excessive negative camber.

they are quite hard on tyres anyhow.

thanks, I have now booked it in for a 4 wheel alignment and camber check. so fingers crossed.

It has now been in for a 4wheelalignment.co.uk check, who seemed very competent, readouts suggest toe out but normal camber.

Thus it has been corrected. And after ATS said normal on 2 occasions!

Hi I have 4 years experience of tyre fitting, and this is normal wear for this car, it is The Worst car on the road 4 quick wearing tyres. Maybe It's a design fault with the Mondeos. Hope this helps?
Nicola

It's no design fault, it'll just need new wishbones, or new compliance bushes in the existing wishbones - try fordpartsuk for a decent price on them, and be thankful it's not an ST200....
