Hi, I've noticed some missing mortar between some of the windows and lintel/brickwork. Can I simply repoint this with some ready-mixed mortar? Should it be filled with foam first?

The first picture is above some french doors, and the second shows some mortar between some bricks. There used to be a conservatory here which previous owners had removed - you might see the triangle shape of different coloured mortar.

Could this be causing some air leakage around the doors/windows too? We do find they can be slightly drafty.

Thanks in advance!

I would have thought it should have been done with silicon like the sides have. Is it a recent installation?

We moved in in 2022 and it was already like this. Not sure when the conservatory was taken out. Isn't that gap a bit large for silicone?

You will probably find that there is no actual gap and that is just the natural projection of the bricks and the lintel set back. The cover piece is covering the actual joint.

It may look a right mess if you try and fill that with mastic as it's not an even line.
