One would hope that the manufacturer's instructions would be consistent with the relevant Standards (and most users have access to the former, but not to the latter).

Well manufacturers' instructions aren't going to give anything like the information required by the Standard as they will be necessarily brief. No-one should be installing these systems without knowledge of the relevant Standards - which in this case means that both BS7671 and BS5839 are relevant.
