This is from my Makita multitool. The black wire has broken just where it gets to the windings. Is this fixable? I have a soldering iron and very basic soldering skills, should I try and peel a bit of wire off the winding to give me something to solder to or is it scrap?

You can peel back a little of the winding without any issues.....scrape off the varnish, tin the wire with solder and solder the black wire back on.

Thanks, I'll give it a try. I only bought it off eBay as a non runner (as some of the studs on my own toolholder have broken off and its only available as part of a complete crank assembly for £45) but it looks hardly used so I thought maybe worth fixing.

Just a bit of struggle with the tinning, I think bits of varnish needed to burn off.

Good result, well done!
The varnish always has to be scraped away, back to shiny copper. I often find with vehicle wiring - especially trailers - the multistrand wire turns black due to water ingress and every strand has to be cleaned in this case. A right pain
