Hey All.

My hot water isn't working. I can usually turn it on by pressing one of the buttons on the controller in the hot water tank cupboard. Now, the boiler downstairs fires up, the pipes you can see in the pictures are warm so there is hot water there, just none comes out of the tap, only cold. Any help would be great, I know NOTHING about DIY so one syllable instructions would be good..... I have posted some pictures of the gear if that helps.

You'll get more help if you post this in the plumbing section mate.

Hi

Yes I know! I thought That's where I posted it. Can the moderators move it?

Photos of the individual component are OK, but a picture of the cupboard showing the lot would be more help. We can then see how they connect together. ;)

Do you have just the one motorized valve - its the grey box attached to the pipework in

or is there a second valve somewhere else?

What is/are the makes and model numbers of the motorized valves?

From the size of the pipe from the motorized valve you may have gravity HW. The pic requested will confirm this. ;) ;)

The pipe which Tees off between the pump and the motorized valve appears to go into the HW cylinder.

1. is this correct?

It also has a tap or something halfway along which could be a thermostat.

2. does it have anything to identify what it is?

The white strap round the cylinder seems to be holding a thermostat with a wire or capillary tube coming off the bottom.

3. Where does this tube/wire go to?

4 Is the white strap holding anything else against the cylinder, e.g a another thermostat?

is the pump surprisingly hot?

have you looked in the loft at the feed and expansion tank? how deep is the water in it, and is it full of mud?

if you bleed the highest radiator in the house, does water squirt out vigorously, without losing pressure, and is it black?

the pump would normally be hot anyway when the system is in use. so i guess the problem may be the thermostat failing or being set too low? ....

i have never seen a tap before in the pipeline like that (before the cylinder)!! very strange! .............

...if water squirts out of the highest rad vigorously then i believe the system is full and in good order. if when bled it slows down and drops then maybe a blocked cold feed ... ?

electricity is passing through it but water is not

e.g.

jammed

vanes broken or worn

no water

circulation obstructed

yep it may be a blocked cold feed/neutal point stopping water (enough water) getting to the pump...

what i can see is it has a air seperator in the pipework quite common for blocking
