Hi,
I am going to move my current light switch in the garage to a more convenient location sometime over the weekend.
I decided to do a check on the switch today and found that the neutral wire is showing 44.9 volts!
Why should this be? I presume live is touching neutral somewhere in that particular line?

Just cause it's black or blue does not make it a neutral!!! It is more than likely going to be a switched live (especially if it's connected to L1).

I bet your garage light fitting is a flourescent (or has an energy saving lamp in it)!!

yeah as said above id be more worried if i had a single neutral in a switch......by the looks of things the previous electrician/handy man who installed the switch didnt have any red/brown tape, and 44 volts could be coming back offa flurescent light fitting.

The live reading is 243 volts.
With the light on, I have 2 wires showing 243 volts and the other showing 46.7 volts.
With the switch off, I have a 243 volt wire and the other two show 117mV.
Yes it is feeding two flourescent tubes.
