I've inherited an old bathroom (2 x 3m) that needs a complete refit including plastering, just wondered if a wet room type bathroom is better? are there any drawbacks or advantages? and are the costs much different?

Not sure why you moved to plumbing but it rather depends on what you want & what your prepared to spend. Wet rooms by their very nature need to have a waterproof environment (floor & walls) outside the immediate wet area of an enclosed shower cubicle. This will involve tanking the complete floor area, the walls to full height in the immediate shower area & at least ½ way up everywhere else. Wet room floor construction & drainage can also present challenges & getting it right & ensuring it won’t all fall apart within a couple of years means it will be rather more expensive to install than a conventional shower cubicle. You also need to appreciate that everything else in a wet room tends to get, erm, wet unless you fit a screen.

Don’t re-plaster any areas you’re going to be tiling, it has to be left to dry out before tiling & has weight restrictions which can be a problem if your considering large format tiles.
