New boiler = lower bills?

A mate has an Ideal Concord, CF, 50kW, in very good nick.
His gas bills are £3500 pa.
If a new boiler averaged 90% efficiency rather than his current 60%(?) he'd save enough to pay for a new condenser in 2-3 years. (Couple of Vaillant 28kW's perhaps)
Has anyone measured this sort of improvement over a period?

(I haven't a clue what my gas bills are )

ok my thoughts
up to 90% probably means average 75% so 15% saving so
old bill £3500 a year =£2975

turning room stat or radiator valves down 2 degrees +reducing burn times by 10%[altering time clock]=another 15% =£2528

but hey these are just guesses and the actual savings depends on actual bills the ability to be comfortable at 21 rather than 23 degrees ect

and another point the old boiler may have reduced in efficency to around 40% now if it has the savings could be around 50% or more with the other saving measures i mentioned

what whould the total cost of the boiler be if it was you normal instilation rates[not mates rates ]!!!

I wouldn't stick a Vaillant in a place like that, or he could be an ex friend.

Broag, Atag, Boulter or Viessman, all with weather compensation.
