Hi,

I am looking to open up a new doorway from my hall into into the under-the-stairs cupboard. This will involve knocking out the doorway from the brick and supporting the new doorway in some way. Due to the restricted space, it is looking like there won't be room for a lintel (otherwise the door will be too small).

Can anyone suggest any other possible methods of supporting the new opening? Since it is just a cupboard, I am not too concerned with appearances from the inside of the cupboard.

Thanks

it will depend upon opening width and what you are supporting.

there is nothing to say that some 12mm (painted) flat bar wouldn't be adequate, but i am not familiar with the job.
