I'm wanting to put a new handrail up our stairs. Most of the handrail brackets I've looked at only take 6g screws, which I don't rate much. In our last house, I cut some circles of timber and shaped them with a router and fixed those securely to the wall and fit the brackets to them. Unfortunately I nearly killed myself in the process and have been left with a morbid fear of routers ever since. Is there any other options or systems for securely fixing a handrail to a plastered brick wall. I've got two kids who I just know will be swinging from the thing.
