Hi just a quick question that i hope somebody can answer.I am having a new kitchen fitted which involves adding an extra socket and moving two others.and also fitting lights under the units. The fitters electrician has been out today and says he cant do any of the work until i change my fuse board, its a wylex 6 way board. Is this correct?

Technically it is not correct, but the sockets in the kitchen will almost certainly require protection by RCD. It is possible to achive this without replacing the fuse box by either installing an RCD in a seperate enclosure adjacent to the fusebox, or to install RCD socket outlets. It also depends on what condition the current fuse box is in. It may be time to upgrade your fusebox anyway and incorporate the RCD into the new box, but if you are unsure then get a second or even third opinion from another electrician(s)
