I am intending to board out my loft and would like a bit of advice ! the loft has the usual 4"x2" ceiling joists but on top of these and running at 90 deg. are two 8" x 2" timbers which are fixed to the rafters and then right through the party wall. i would like a one level loft floor so would like to know if by using more 8" x 2" timber can i create a frame that i can then fix new 4" x 2" joists to which would be independent of the ceiling joists. When the loft floor is done it is for the moment only for storage but in the future may turn into a playroom but don't want to have to re do the floor if we go down this route. i know that for using the loft for anything other than storage needs BC regs. can this be done or am i looking at at getting a builder in and a priper loft conversion. hope that this is clear, any help would be greatly appreciated.
