Need some advice!

Planning to have a new patio at the end of the garden, which will be contained on 3 sides by stone garden walls and to the front edge by wooden sleepers.

I plan to put down Type 1 mot (how deep - 40mm?) which I will compact to give a firm base.

Do i need to bed the slabs on wet mortar or would a bed of sand or a dry mix be enough.

The use will be light/foot traffic - table and chairs and kids playing on it.

thanks

How big is the patio? and what is going on top (just patio slabs or stone?)?

I'm in the middle of laying an indian stone patio, I was recommended to put down 100mm of Type 1 compacted, then 25-40mm mortar mix (damp/wet).

its going to be 6m by 3m and was planning on using slabs as opposed to natural stone slabs

wasn't sure if i needed a wet mix over the base given that it was "retained" on all sides?
