Hi,

New 9.5kw shower being installed with 10mm cable, clipped direct, rcd protected and its being notified through building control.

The consumer unit is a square d and ideally I am after a 45 amp mcb for it but I am struggling to find one.

The local electrical wholesaler recommended a 40amp but Im not sure as with nominal voltage of 230 volts would give 41.3 amps.

The measured voltage is actually 245 volts which if it stayed constant would mean a 40a mcb would be ok any suggestions please?!?!?

40A will be fine.

You're not working it out correctly.

9500W / 240V = 39.58 A

At 230V which are the values to use it equates to -

8750W / 230V = 38.04 amps

Both values may be marked on the shower engine.

Edit - Incidentally, at 245V it will be 9900W and 40.4A but you do not need to consider these values.

It depends if the shower is rated 9500w @ 230V. If you supply it with 245V it will draw more current (almost 44A)
