Hi
As the new wires has changed colours is it still necessary to identify the switched "live" neutral at ceiling roses and light switches as previously the black neutral switched "live" was identified with a "red sleeve"?.

If so what identifies it?
Any help would be appreciated

You should sleeve wrongly coloured phase conductors as brown

Why are you putting "live" in quotes, and using terms like "switched live neutral" and "black neutral switched live"?

Yes, blue switched live wires are identified by brown sleeving/insulating tape just like black switched live wires were identified with red sleeving/insulating tape.

BAS, I know he is using the wrong terminology but remember this is a DIY Forum/Website, hence its name......

but in an old installation using old colours, if there was no sleave and you werent changing any wires would you use red or brown?

-adding red would be outdated?
-adding brown would mean there are old an new colours in use and the sticker to say old and new colours are in use would be needed?

Either use red as the same colour wiring scheme or use a cable marker marked with the letter L.

Another example where departing from the letter of BS 7671 is better than sticking to it...

Hi all

Assuming that this is adding new colour wiring in a house with old colour wiring, don't forget to put a up a notice to that effect on or near the CU.
