Hi. When I turn on my central heating I get a loud banging noise and a whirling sound, its a bit frightening as it seems like it is going to explode, after a while it settles down but still not quiet. Noise is coming from cupboard where cylinder is, i think the pump is in here as well. Boiler is downstairs in kitchen and seems ok. Thanks[/i]

Hi we have same boiler and sounds like a similar setup. Where our cylinder is there is also a diverting valve. It is a quick release type and the small motor that drives this valve open or closed had worn. The gears had worn and so when the System started up in the morning sounded like a machine gun going off. Maybe its the same as your problem.

I removed the valve and replaced the small motor.
If you are going to do it yourself, best remove mains electricity etc and make a note which way valve sits etc - so it can go back.
Hope this helps. :D
