Hi all,

Considering having a log burner installed as part of a renovation project. Problem is that the unit we are after is not hetas approved. I've been told that this fact will mean that building control will not approve the install.

Is that correct?

I thought it was the installer that was registered, not the log burner?

Some log burners are DEFRA approved which means they can be used in smoke control areas. HETAS is the body which approves the installer, meaning that if a HETAS installer fits the stove then you don't need building control involvement.

Hi, I am a Hetas installer.

Hetas do approve products such as stoves, but stoves don't need to be Hetas approved to be installed. In the uk stoves should be CE marked to be fitted.
Obviously if you are in a smoke control area then to be legal the stove should be DEFRA approved if you plan to burn wood. If you are in a non smoke control area and have a non DEFRA approved stove and plan to burn wood then you need to use a 6" liner minimum(if you are planning to use a liner)

Cheers
