Who saw them? Visible from many places in the U.K. last night.

No. It was on our local Facebook page. I didn’t see them! Gutted. Plenty of people missed them too.

The Icelandic minister of tourism was heard to say aw fek at the weekend as 30 million Brits ticked off their bucket list . Seeing the northern lights
 
Not being a news watcher, nor a soshul meeja whore, I did not know about the Friday night display until I woke up on Saturday morning. :(

As I had to collect second-born from his work at midnight on the Saturday, I had a look from 2300, but saw nothing.
 
My little Pentax doesn't have the resolution capable of that quality. :(
You might have been surprised if you tried but street light glow in the sky is likely to blot it out. The BBC mentioned how a camera helps especially if you want colours. Without the cameras they are likely to look like pale grey white streaks in the sky that come and go and move around.
 
These are no longer the Northern Lights and are now just referred to as:

Lights.
