Not being a news watcher, nor a soshul meeja whore, I did not know about the Friday night display until I woke up on Saturday morning.
As I had to collect second-born from his work at midnight on the Saturday, I had a look from 2300, but saw nothing.

You might have been surprised if you tried but street light glow in the sky is likely to blot it out. The BBC mentioned how a camera helps especially if you want colours. Without the cameras they are likely to look like pale grey white streaks in the sky that come and go and move around.My little Pentax doesn't have the resolution capable of that quality.
