Not enough water in cistern

I've inherited this new type of float valve, which I haven't come across before, how do I increase the amount of water in the cistern to clear waste?

There is a grub screw on the brass fitting to the plastic ball, you can undo this to make adjustments by sliding the ball up or down on the brass rod. Other than that you can (Very carefully) manually bend the brass rod. The higher the ball the higher the water level.

Yes, I can see this awkwardly positioned grub screw, I'll try moving the float up, or possibly down.
