Hi, I have a "solid" oak table I'd like to strip and refinish. Table is from Furniture Village, a few years old and finished in the original lacquer finish. I say solid in inverted commas as the main structure is solid oak, then covered in oak veneers.

I know that sanding alone will run a risk of blowing through the veneer, so I'm thinking of using a stripper in the first instance, following by sanding with a very fine sandpaper once that's done.

Does anyone have any examples of doing this successfully? Any recommendations for a stripping product?

Paint stripper will remove lacquer then clean with spirit, and fine wire wool

I did a little test patch with some 120 grit paper because I'm impatient and I think it's looking pretty promising
