Does anyone know where I could get spare elements for a 1950 Morphy Richards TA/1b toaster. The element seems to consist of metal tape wound around a flat asbestos former. toaster was a wedding present so it has sentimental value for her in doors. Morphy Richards have no knowledge of a supplier of old parts - do you?

If your antique toaster contains asbestos the only place will get spare parts is a toxic waste dump. Even if your toaster wasn't bust you wouldn't be advised to use it. Asbestos was widely used in old appliances (toasters, irons, hairdryers, coffee pots etc). Even up to the early 80's asbestos was still being used in some hairdryers. Think about it....blowing all those nice loose asbestos fibres directly in your face while curling your hair

The ones I remember were wound on a sandwich of thin layers of mica rather than asbestos, not sure if it is any less of a health risk or not.
