Usually with these symptoms you can see or feel what's wrong. Take off the lid and back panel, look for loose concrete blocks, broken springs or shock absorbers. On some washers the shock absorbers themselves don't tend to fail but they can tear out of the base of the machine. You also need to check for drum bearing failure. This can be checked by turning the drum by hand and lifting it. If it feels rough when turned or there is up and down movement of the inner drum relative to the outer drum then you may well have bearing failure.
