my oil burner fires up ok and runs for an hour before cutting out. when you hit the reset button, it fires up ok. anybody got any suggestions as to why it keeps cutting out?

Certainly sounds like a fuel oil problem, a blocked filter perhaps or a leak in the oil pipe resulting in air locks.

It could be heat related - the coil on top of the oil pump is a popular one....especially if the thing comes back to life when it has cooled a bit.
A pump pressure test and a smoke test is a good thing to indicate if it needs a clean out, too.

What make of Burner do you have? info on this would enable us to give you advice on your particular burner model ;)

definately sounds like coil breakdown, the riello coils seem to run longer when breaking down but good news is they are only about 7 notes

Had one of these earlier this week with same symptoms, thought coil (although I've only changed one Riello coil in the last 2 years) - turned out to be a control box fault intermittently allowing coil to energise...
