I have had an enquiry to a leak on a pipe leading from a domestic oil tank that is leaking. What type of engineer is required to carry out a repair on this type of leak? Are there any recognised qualifications for this?
In Scotland you don't need to be OFTEC registered to work on ANY type of oil installations.
Throughout the UK OFTEC is not mandatory, unlike Gas Safe is with gas installs. So I guess anyone can work on oil installations as long as there's no Building Control involved.
Oftec 600A certification is required to install a NEW oil tank however a leak on an existing is classed as "service & Maintenance" which is outside the scope of OFTEC
OFTEC 600A is only required to commission a tank installation. Anyone can install, but just try to get certified afterwards. With regard to the oil line anyone can do it.
