Hello

can anyone suggest a way to get an old olive off a pipe? I cant afford to cut the pipe as it is short enough as it is. I have tried to use the old olive and nut already on there but it isn't a perfect fit and I can see that a little water is getting through the joint so i need to replace them.

asuming the olive is tight, and you can't knock it off e.g. by puttting an adjustable spanner under the nut, that's a sliding fit on the pipe, and tapping it upwards

you need to nick the olive and then it will release.

you can do this (careful!) with a junior hacksaw, or a cutting disk in a dremel or similar if you have it. the trick is to go almost through the olive without cutting the pipe, then when you tap the olive it will be so weak that it will come loose or break open.

If the olive starts to rotate as you are cutting it, maybe it has got loose enough to tap upwards.

You can also buy an olive pullng tool but I have never had one.

I am not a plumber.
