I have just moved into a new house and want to replaced the toilet seat as it is fairly old and has seen better days.

When I went to remove it I discovered that the screw holding the seat onto the toilet is very rusty and when I try to undo it the screwdriver just destroys the top of the screw.

Is there a way that I can remove the screw without damaging the toilet.

Many thanks in advance for any ideas

1.You could try to use some Wd40 and tap it with a punch just to free it up . Then use some pliers or try cut a groove and use a screwdriver tapping it with a hammer at the same time .

2.use easyouts if you have them

3. last resort drill it out .

is your toilet seet not bolted on from the underside of the pan?

i thought they all were? mine is, so is my mums, and where i used to live

Is it a concealed hinge fitting? Drill with oversized hss bit and the heat created should transfer to the rubber plug destroying it enough to remove or loosening it enough to get a hacksaw blade under.
