I have an Omnicron 8000 and am constantly told it is no good and it does seem a bit dodgy at present.
Bearing in mind I have no alarm experience, is there a more reliable replacement that will take the same wires i.e be obvious which wires go where, or is it time to forget it and wait till I can afford an expert?

Well if as I suspect your other issue is a cable fault your barking up the wrong tree going for a replacement.

Time to call in someone ( get 3 companies) to quote to fit a new panel and or replace the damaged cable.

Well if you did what I suggested we would know.
Rather than guessing.
