Hi all,
Normally I’d get a sparky in to investigate, but we are self isolating due to my son having a temperature and cough.
I went to replace a double socket with one of these super duper usb-equipped sockets in the kitchen (apparently it’ll allow the boss to charge her phone, as well as have her kettle and TV plugged in - first world problems eh?)
So, got the original socket off and, as is typical, the baby woke up and needed a bottle. So, as I was the only one in the room I flicked the mcb back (yes, with live wires exposed - I know!) on momentarily to microwave some milk for 30sec. But glad I did, as it uncovered a problem.
The microwave wouldn’t work. Joining the two separated live wires got it working again. Found the socket tester and 5 of the 12 sockets on the ring final had no juice when this ring was split at the socket.
This must indicate an open live/break in the live ring, yes? There are no sockets not working normally.
So, short of go round and take the cover off each and every socket, am I right in thinking that removing one “leg” of the ring leaving the MCB in the CU will energise sockets up to the fault?
Cheers
