I've had an outdoor halogen light for a while and it needs replacing as the seal is gone.

I've opened the back up:

So I thought it's copying the old light

However the new light looks like this:

what wire do I put into the new one opposite the red as the old one came with a wire already in it?

any help would be great.

thanks

There is something wrong if the new lamp came as in the picture.

The two white wires are from the lamp

The brown blue and red flexible wires are from the sensor
Brown Live to the sensor
Blue Neutral to the sensor
Red Switched Live from the sensor

The incoming supply has brown Live and Blue Neutral

So the connections should be

incoming blue to blue of sensor and one white wire
incoming brown to brown of sensor
red from sensor to the other white wire

Thanks for the reply, I tried putting the brown opposite the red however the light is completely dead.... could what you posted be why?

Would it work if I swapped the red around with the brown like the old light?

It looks to me like the brown goes to red, and blue to blue and white.
Check that the terminals are nipped up tight and no PVC insulation is trapped, also make sure the lamp/tube is positioned correctly in to the contact points.

Can you post a copy of the instructions?

I cannot believe they don't mention the wiring!

Take it back and get a new one.

If it's an ebay special, get a new one anyway, they're only <£10.

The OP claims they are non! (already asked)
Looks similar to an "Eterna floodlight"
So if that is the case brown-red and blue-blue/white. Don't rule out the PIR being faulty, might be worth linking it out.

This is all a bit long winded.

Clearly the new light should be wired the same as the old one.

However, whether the manufacturer has mistakenly connected the PIR's red and brown the wrong way round is impossible to tell from here.

The make of the one I have is Kingfisher, the instructions are crap, nothing like the ones above.

I would think the red and brown has been put in the wrong place as that would then match the old light but don't really want to risk messing the wires 2 wires.

I have to agree with EFLI.

It's pointless faffing around with a second hand fitting that supposedly has instructions that do not give wiring details.

For the cost involved, just replace it and have done. To boot, you get a brand new fitting with a 12 month guarantee.

If the PIR is wired incorrectly, would not putting brown to red just link out the PIR? Therefore light should come on and off via switch?
If putting brown to brown then light only operates via switch and not PIR, that would indicate the PIR is faulty.
