We have just had a new element fitted to our boiler and the over flow has started to drip/run. We have been into the attic and there is a large tank and a small tank. It would seem that the over flow pipe leads out of the smaller tank, however, we can not find out why the small tank is filling with more water then required...........there is no dripping from the ball valve in either tanks.

I'm having to guess that you have a boiler, somewhere, that's heating the water in a copper cylinder.

With this setup, if you have a rising level in the F&E cistern (aka header tank - the smaller one), then the usual cause is a split or hole in the coil inside the cylinder. This type of fault is irrepairable - you have to replace the entire cylinder. Sorry.

The proof of diagnosis is to shut off the cold mains to the entire house, take half the water out of the F&E, and wait to see if the level continues to rise.
