painting ceiling

bit cinfused with all mixed advice i have had re: painting so thought would post here and ask some proffesional opinions so here goes :

1st question is, wht do i do to bathroom ceiling b4 painting ? do i have to seal it first any suggestions, (will be painting over new plaster also)

2nd question, will be painting living room which has all been replastered also any suggestions on what to do preperation wise, do i have to seal plaster etc?

You need to treat both the same...apply a thinned out coat first (mist coat) rub down lightly then to fuller coats..if its only a skim then you can use vinyl matt (thin the second and third coats a little too so it goes on easier. and you dont get too much of the orange peel effect.
