I have a ceiling coated in an oil based gloss. I have been recommended to coat firstly with acrylic eggshell and then emulsion but someone else told me that this will not work. Who is right?

It will work but make sure it is clean first then rub over with sandpaper. Some people prefer a cheap oil based primer.

I agree with Joe....acrylic 'might' work'..an oil based undercoat after a good rub down will definatly work.

Leave it for a few warm days to cure though before you emulsion it.

Am also considering painting the outside of my house in the next couple of weeks. It has never been painted before and has a white spar finish... well I guess it was white once upon a time. Have read a lot about pliolite masonry on here and was wondering if I should use it. Apart from the fact that it can be applied in uncertain weather conditions what other advantages does it have. Once on the wall is it a better protecting coating than water based masonry finishes and will it bind the spar to the wall better. Also my garage will need doing but is already painted with water based masonry. Can you apply pliolite over water based masonrty paint.
