hi-just wondering what is the best method to paint new plastered walls.
been told by acouple of people different methods-any advice helpful.
firstly got told to use p.v.a to seal paint.
secondly got told to use cheap emulsion straight onto plaster because obviosly it is cheap and it will absorb into plaster and then use a good quality emulsion over it.
thirdly got told to use a one coat emulsion which ive been told is good-from wickes.

wondering if it would be a good idea to mix some p.v.a. with the
emulsion???? and if so what ratio.

any info as what brand/make emulsion to use would be helpful
thanx

The second option...

Dont put PVA on first...its an old wifes tail...and dont go making emulsion cocktails with PVA that wont work either.

Your right about th cheap emulsion for a first coat...but the cheap stuff can be a false economy...you will find that you cant thin it much...id go for a dcent quality emulsion...

If the walls are deep plaster then you should use contract emulsion, it will allow the wall the breathe and let any trpped moisture escape.

If its just a skim then you can use any MATT emulsion...thin the first coat by about 40% water..the second and third by about 15%

The one coat stuff wont work either...its to thick and will just sit on the surface (until it flakes off) it will also leave a orange peel finish and wont go very far.
