Painting over roughed up plasterboard

C

The paint above the shower cubicle has had some mould grow on it and the paint is peeling. So I started to sand it down ready to paint over with an appropriate mould resistant bathroom paint.

Problem is that being a modern house there is no plaster over the board, just the board itself that was originally painted straight onto.

So the queston is, How do I get a smooth and suitable surface for painting over?

I would use plasterboard jointing compound, and very gently sand it smooth (It's nice and easy to sand).

If you end up exposing any of the plaster inside the board, put a bit of PVA over it before jointing compound.
