hi there
i am pulling my hair out over this, i moved into a new house some years ago and have successfully painted all the rooms but have had nothing but trouble with the stair well, to make matters worse at the top of the stairs there is a large vlux which is great for letting light in but shows up every blemish on the walls i have now painted at least four times,

i thought it might be a good idea to use washable/scrubble matt emulsion, i washed the brush and roller in water before using just to make sure there was no dust, once finished it looked like i had missed patches and there was bits all over the wall, i let it dry rubbed down the wall cleaned and dryed and painted agin, looks great looking down the stairs but when you look up once again it looks like dry/missed patches in places, some bits not to much this time,

to make matters worse i did have a proffessional painter ready to do the painting for me but the family took the **** so much and said it was a waste of money that i put him off coming.
any help would be really appreciated
Ivan

Make sure the paint is not too thick. Thin it a little with water if needed. Use a good deep pile roller and put plenty on and roll out well, overlapping each stroke as you go. Make sure you dont roll it out too far as the roller become dry and then it will look patchy. Roof lights are never very forgiving as they shine light down the wall showing every imperfection.
A standard vinyl matt emulsion is probably better as a silk or satin will show more defects on the wall.

I had similar problem with it just looking patchy. I thined my paint a little and I made sure everything was ready to work as fast as possible it was much better. Just my own DIY tip but it worked better for me
