We have a solid wood door which has been satined a deep mahogany colour. We wantto paint iot white gloass finish - what do I need to do so that the mahogany colour doesn't show thru the white paint???
The most omportant thing you'l need to do is prepare it well, start with a good wash down especially around the parts of the door that will have been handled a lot, like the outer side of it.
Then a really good rub down with fine grade abrasive paper, making sure you get in all the moulded bits....if you dont do this the paint will be off in no time as it doesnt take very well on top of stain/varnish.
Then...a coat of either Melamine primer, Dulux supergrip or Zamix...to provide a good bond, allow to dry well for a couple of days then lightly rub it down again..then two undercoats and a top coat
Personally...id think about getting anew door...only 15 quid.
