Pan offset connector

Just a question...Wickes sell a Multikwik 40mm offset pan connector.
I can see how this could give 40mm to the left or 40mm to the right or downwards, but surely you could not have a soil pipe up to 40 mm above the toilet outlet ??
Is that so ? What would be the limit upwards ??

The limit upwards is zero, if your soil pipe is higher than your pan outlet, you need to raise the pan up
 
Believe it or not, Multikwik do a 100mm offset:

What you will find with some fly by night plumbers is that they wont bother lifting the pan up, leaving the offset connector up but thus losing the flushing diameter of the soil pipe i.e less that 4". this will inevitably lead to blockages.

Alter the stack rather than raising the pan is a more proffesional job , a pan raised off the floor is noticable and uncomfortable to the 'average' user.
