I am thinking of laying a parquet floor throughout the ground floor of my house. The current floors are mostly t&g floorboards so I was going to follow mattysupra's advice about levelling the floor but just wanted to check if I was going to cause problems letting the room breathe. The previous owners installed uPVC double glazing which has caused some condensation problems already and I don't want to make things worse.

Has anyone any experience of this type of situation?

Thanks in advance.

You can use plywood and screw/nail that down (every 25 cm) on your existing floorboards, creating a stable and breathable subfloor. DON'T use chipboard for this!

Thanks for the quick response - will I need to prime the plyboard in any way and do you have a recommendation for adhesive?

Woodyoulike - you're advice is invaluable. May I have some more?
I am proposing to use 18mm plyboard (why not chipboard by the way?) - should I leave any expansion gaps?

Thanks again!

Chipboard and modern adhesives don't 'get-along' very well. Plywood is much better and yes you should leave tiny expansion gaps between the plywood sheet (credit card thickness).
