Hi I was told to day that to simply change an electric shower in a rented house .You dont have to be qualified does that sound right?

Replacement where the circuit protective measures are unaffected does not require notification under part p.
However, you still need to ensure your work is safe. One way in aiding to show this is qualifications.
 
Agree with Spark123 but to add would the person doing it DIY know if the existing shower circuit was safe or not. There's a big differnce between working and it being safe.
