Peripheral neuropathy

I've got John D and NoseFAll on "ignore". I doubt I've missed anything!
Still not got a GP appt. Same story as Monday. I'm going to phone the practice manager. This carp about no appts for 2 weeks is only to help them with their NHS targets to the detriment of the patient. No wonder people go straight to A&E.

What you need to do is try and rule out what it isn't.... then go from there.

A thorough history take.
Physical examination including assessment of the peripheral circulation (preferably with a Doppler), neuro exam and MSK assessment.

If you can rule out a mechanical cause you can then start to think about the neurological, metabolic, hormonal suspects. That's where a full blood panel is needed to rule things in/out.

As an NHS podiatrist I've been lots of folk with neuro pain and it's a right bastard. I can assess all the mechanical and 1st tier neurological culprits and then suggest onward referral to various specialisms. Bottom line though is you need to reset your baseline to a degree. This means stop eating processed ****e, cut back on the booze and move more. I'd have a crack at a very low carb diet and 20mins of brisk walking... not strolling... Find a hill and get out of breath.....See what happens.

Given the pain is in your feet though it wouldn't hurt to ask for a podiatry assesment.... Just pray you get someone that knows what they're doing, and gives a ****. It's always useful to have someone outside the medic profession, but still a healthcare professional, act as an advocate.

I've got a referral to a neurologist and for electrical tests on the nerves in my legs so I might be making progress. For a fat git I do walk a fair bit with the dog, I rarely drink alcohol these days but I do eat rubbish. Well, it wasn't rubbish until I "cooked" it.
