I have always thought that that model is very ideal in most respects.

No one I have ever met has bought one.

One ongoing complaint that I have that NO van manufacturer has ever addressed is still unsolved.

It goes like this:-

A van used for deliveries needs to be reasonably comfortable and QUIET !

Many smaller vans are used by sole traders as both VAN and CAR !

They need to be as QUIET as a family car !

They need to be as comfortable as a family CAR !

Every CAR is both QUIET and COMFORTABLE !

Why are no VANS both QUIET and COMFORTABLE ???

Only today I saw a Discovery being used as a plumber's van.

Bought a new Renault Traffic LWB 10 months ago. Air con, lecy mirror's,lecky windows,CD,Heated mirror's.Metalic paint .Looks good, drives very good ,Bit to fast 4 a van,Dont like getting to jobs cos u got to get out. Can delivery drivers get 50K.

Yes, a very good friend has an Expert on a "S" reg and swears by it.

He's an interior designer/project manager/craftsman, so it's used for carrying anything from kitchens to bathrooms to furniture.

The 1.9 diesel engine used in these models is virtually indestructible and good on fuel too.

"Car-like" might be a bit too far, but he does find it very comfortable to drive too with it's dash-mounted gear-shift.

Edit: just realised I said exactly the same thing in April, here: //www.diynot.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=51046

So you know I haven't just made it up!

yeah just put a deposit down on an expert, looks like a good motor, body work in excellent condition. engine sounds good, looks dry so no oil leaks, cab in good condition.

s reg 90000 miles, £2800.

hope i dont av any problems with it, it was trade and i get a 3 month warranty with it also.

had real problems with my last van, escort. total pain

always had escorts excellent vans bit on the small side though, changed to a astra pile of sh1t more grief then over to renault  big mistake got rid of that for a hiace 2.4d lwb great van except for VERY heavy thirst for diesel now drive a new transit best of the bunch quick quiet and easy on the fuel, couple of blokes i know drive experts/scudos and rate them very well both have 150.000 miles plus on them only the body work is letting them down good luck with your new toy

if you buy a puggy expert, make sure you get the timing belt changed. 72k interval iirc. when (not if) it breaks (if it misses a change) then expect a hefty bill. i repair them regularly (in their various guises) and its a pig of a job. belt change 150 ish. after breakage 1000??

other than that great van. if only i could see past my transit......

.

Could you expand on that davieboy? I'm doing my boxer 1.9 diesel belt in a couple of weeks, not having done a pug before what should I be wary of?
And do you change the water pump as a matter of course while you're at it? Is there anyway of telling if the original belt has been changed already? Cheers.

If the water pump is briven by the belt, then it's worth doing while it's all off.

I would guess it's a pretty simple belt change, but what Dave was saying is if the belt does go then you've got alot of rebuilding to do!

Yes, I think I read the post wrong! Will go for a new pump as well methinks. Cheers neo.

yeah the place i`v got the van from are giving me a new M.O.T and a service, the salesman said the can belt will be replaced?? never trust car/van salesmen!!! got a 3 month warrenty anyway. may just service the van myself went i pick it up, and change the cam belt then???

had real trouble with an escort van in had!! stop soleiod went tits on it £150 for the part, fitted it myself cos i can do that sort of stuff ok. diesel fitter i know said he`d do it for £600, worst than plumbers those fitters !!!! haha.

hope not to have problems with this van, real good van tho. pick it uo next week, just got to deck it out. may have that done by a pro???

I've got an R reg Expert, had it from new. Mine IS as quiet as a car, but then I have sound proofing felt on the floor, sound deadening panels under the wings, all the side and door panels roof, sound proofing felt on the roof and ply lined.

Had to spend loads recently on injectors, exhaust, tyres, new seat belt (£170!!!!!) suspension ball joint, but then what do you expect? and it's done 133,000.

Don't know about this diy cam belt business, even garages, except main dealers, won't touch it.

i`v done a few cam belts on cars, done an engine change before, was great fun!! not.

i`am gona press the salesman on the cam belt issue, its better i know what really has been done on the service.

he said they will always change the belt, not aure if that just for puggs or what?

if the belt don`t` look new i`am gona kick the salesman in the n**ts!

and while he`s down on the floor he can change the belt.

ben told the engines are sound on the pug vans tho.

Im a plumber and recently bought a new Fiat Scudo van. Identical as the Expert but i got a 2.0 diesel with Air con and bulk head plus body colour bumpers and elec windows for the same price as peugeot were selling the base model Expert.

Ive had no trouble and am delighted with it.
