I got called to a job this week.

There was a double socket in an out house supplying the washer and tumble dryer, which had all of a sudden stopped working.

The twin socket was wired in 1.5mm² t+e, which I traced to a single socket in the kitchen, which was spurred from a spur (in 2.5mm²)

The live terminal had overheated melting the insulation off the live wire, shorting straight to earth.

Single socket: (Scorch mark to left of switch)

Oh, and the socket was fed from this mess:

The cooker and immersion were rubber cable, the rest was PVC/PVC

Not that I am aware of, but the use of all that MEM gear shows good taste ;)

Also note the use of generously-proportioned back-boards

If you get the rewire job then you'll be able to afford a pair of nail clippers :D

Not too long ago that would have been classed as a "proper job" :D

Indeed, clean your finger nails, yuk !

There is probably a fuse in both live and neutral sides of the cast iron incomer at the bottom left.
